KDKA names new weekday evening host

Pittsburgh:

KDKA-AM (1020) announced today that Robert Mangino has been named weeknight talk host beginning Monday, February 15. Mangino is a resident of New Castle and is the current weekday morning host on WKBN-AM (570) in Youngstown where he's been since 1996. He has also hosted an afternoon talk show on WKST-AM (1200) in New Castle.

"As a teenager in New Castle, I would dream of what it would be like to work at KDKA in Pittsburgh," said Mangino. "Now - to be following the great talk show hosts like John Cigna and Fred Honsberger - and to work with Larry Richert, John Shumway, Marty Griffin and Mike Pintek - the dream has come true."

Mr Mangino will be on the air from 6-10 p.m. taking over for Mike Pintek who was named the new Noon - 3 p.m. host this week.

I like Mangino well enough, but I was really hoping Mike Romigh would get his old spot back . . . shucks!!!

Congrats to Mangino!!!

What a kick in the pants to all the part-time hosts who have put in years with KDKA (and please don’t include Rob Pratte) to have KDKA go outside the local people and hire a semi-local person.

I wonder if he will give up his morning show on WKBN? I’ve listened to him there from time to time.

in response to “msg,” why is is a kick in the pants, when Mangino IS a KDKA part-timer? He has been filling in as a sub for a while now.

Probably because it’s keeping in line with KDKA’s “ideological purity”, with no diversity of opinion in regular rotation on weekdays. I think it may be time for Romigh and Chris Moore to give KDKA the finger for the way they make them “separate but equal”.

Chris Moore would be great, but he’s kind of type casted. Unfortunately when he gets on the air it always turns into a Black Horizons format. Everything is either about Black history or racism. If he can get beyond that, I think he would be wonderful…!

We have a Stephanie Mangino, who is the Business Page editor of the Winchester (Va.) Star. Don’t suppose they are any relation.

I listened to Mike Romigh when he was on KDKA replacing someone. I no longer listen now that he isn’t on and usually don’t listen in the evening now that Mike Romigh is no longer there from 9-12. I guess he isn’t a republican. I only listen to Marty Griffin and then I shut the radio off. Fred H. wife and son was on one night and they were disgusting just like Fred.
