WWVA Towers destroyed in storm
West Virginia:
WWVA-AM 1170 in Wheeling is off the air after severe weather in the form of a "downburst" knocked over the 3 tower array used to transmit the air signal. The tower site is located in St. Clairsville, Ohio. According to the WWVA website, the engineer crews are working to get a temporary facility built as soon as possible. WWVA's programming is moving over to sister WBBD-AM (1400) as of 6:00 a.m. Thursday.

Might WHAM (1180 Rochester) or WRVA (1140 Richmond) possibly step in to offer some late night and/or early morning Ohio Valley area news and information reports (e.g., coal miner work status etc)? WCCO (830 Minneapolis) did this when the WHAS (840 Louisville) tower collapsed in the 1980’s. WHAM and WRVA have very strong night time AM signal strength in the Wheeling and Ohio Valley area.

Although not at its usual nightime strength here in my Rockville MD and Fairfax VA listening areas, WWVA had a fairly decent and listenable signal late last (Friday) night. The nearby (AM frequency wise) stations on 1180 (Rochester), 1140 (Richmond), 1110 (Charlotte), and 1100 (Cleveland) were comming in at their usual strong signal strengths. Having grown up in Wheeling, I depend on WWVA for Ohio valley news, WVU sports, and Pittsburgh area sports.

Just got the news here in Fort Walton Beach, Fl.
Sorry to hear about the towers going down. I am past engineer of WHLX, WKWK, WHLL in Wheeling. Now retired in Florida. Wish I could help but long way away.
