Ratings Madness
Pittsburgh:The August 2010 Ratings are out and KD fans can relax as the station has pulled itself back up to third place. One notes that the gap between KDKA (1020) and WPGB (104.7) is again growing allowing one to ask if having a majority of local programming as opposed to syndicated is beneficial? WDVE (102.5) is still at number one but down .3/point. Ironically, up .3/point is WKVE (103.1) which has achieved its highest number since going on in early-May at .7. Coincidence?
If DVE continues to slide, sister WKST (96.1) could become the new number 1 as some speculated last month.
As a non-PPM carrying observer, one might think that WLTJ would garner better ratings as it seems to be on EVERYWHERE. However, the station holds its long-standing place just below the top 10. Sister station WRRK seems to be picking up the slack though, perhaps allowing 'LTJ to remain where it is.
WPKV (99.3) seems to be gaining steadily as it touts the "K-Love" format.
And even with a cume of 12,800, WMNY (1360) manages to pull a 0.0.
Still listed are WAMO-FM, WPTT-AM and WGSM-FM. Hmmm...

I see a tie between ESPN 1250 and 93.7 The Fan. I think having the NFL games on The Fan will boost the station, not to mention a great signal I get here most of the time. With K-Love up this way on 107.1 in Greenville I can say that it’s plain awful to see another good signal go to waste. I’m hoping for good things on 940 & 1470 once EMF sells both.

I see that WHJB in Greensburg has gone nowhere in the ratings since they brought in Hank Baughman and made all of those changes. Now KVE is already about to overtake them. WHJB’s high school football is garbage now too where it used to be the best around with Don Condi and Brent Wiggum. KVE should bring those guys in and then blow Classic Hits out of the water.

You mixed WPKV-98.3 up with WPKL-99.3. But your point is spot on, as the Duquesne-licensed station rises to an overall 2.3 share.

I guess that KDKA isn’t going to be making any changes soon since it’s back up to a more respectable 3rd place. That said, they still need to analyze what they’re doing wrong – 3rd place may be a good rating, but for KDKA, that’s pretty bad.
I do see 96.1 overtaking WDVE in the #1 spot in the next quarter. The demise of WAMO and WBZZ was a HUGE favor for KISS-FM.
I think it’s pretty funny that WMNY is only garnering 12,000 listeners and a 0.0 rating. I’m wondering if Renda’s regretting his decision with getting rid of Lynn Cullen and Doug Hoerth. Probably not, since Ron Morris is footing the bill for this station and it’s Morris’s losses instead of Renda’s.
WMNY is even getting beaten by WKHB, which is mostly snake oil – whoops, I mean, “health talk” infomercials. Ron Morris is better off purchasing time on WKHB and broadcasting on that station instead of purchasing on WMNY – he’d get a bigger audience.
Speaking of WKHB – I caught it this morning when it was actually playing music. The format is really interesting. It was playing the rare 70’s “AM Gold” songs and other songs that you don’t hear elsewhere. Couldn’t it just stick to a music format and sell commercial spots rather than have the informercials touting quack treatments?

the way WLTJ could move up is the flip to Urban AC format
