New format for 90.5 announced

Pittsburgh:

On this - the last day for jazz on WDUQ-FM (90.5), Essential Public Media has announced its new schedule beginning at midnight tonight. As expected, the format will be mostly NPR programming with some jazz still sprinkled in.

Current programs remaining on 90.5 will be Morning Edition, Fresh Air, All Things Considered, Marketplace, Weekend Edition Saturday/Sunday, Car Talk, Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!, Weekend All Things Considered, Rhythm Sweet & Hot, Jazz with Bob Studebaker, Commonwealth Club, Living on Earth, Studio 360, The Splendid Table, Music from India, and LeShow.

New programs joining the station are OnPoint, Tell Me More, Talk of the Nation, The World, and The Tavis Smiley Show. Later in the year, locally-produced programs like Essential Pittsburgh will join the lineup.

Meanwhile, The Allegheny Front will move from WYEP to 90.5 FM as will Prosody. This American Life, which has aired on both stations, will air exclusively on 90.5. More on programming is available at www.EssentialPublicMedia.org.

As of now, the WDUQ calls will only be heard for the top-hour legal ID until a new set of calls is assigned. It will be strongly identified as "Essential Public Radio 90.5 FM". The station will be relocated later this summer to the WYEP Community Broadcast Center on the South Side.

We currently carry the same “JazzWorks” network (with a few exceptions) with much better sound quality online than WDUQ is putting out online at 24kbps. Go to http://www.erieradio.com for “88.5 Jazz FM” and listen live to our Windows or MP3 Stream.
