In Memory: Ellie Padolf

Pittsburgh:

Local radio listeners will remember the bubbly personality and laughter of Eleanor "Ellie" Padolf. Among other gigs, she worked for Hearst radio stations WTAE-AM (1250) and WHTX-FM (96.1). Padolf passed away on November 22. She leaves behind her husband of 57 years, S. Bruce Padolf, four children and six grandchildren. After her work with radio ended, she did work with non-profit organizations.

Was Ellie the woman who did household hints with Doug Hoerth?

That was not Elly: you’re thinking of Elaine, the former WTAE switchboard operator. She now has a similar job as a afternoon receptionist at the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and enjoys reminiscing about the Hoerth days!

As a student at Duquesne, I worked at WDUQ in the early 80’s where Ellie would call up to do the traffic. My first few air shifts, I was very nervous, but she was a sweet lady who told me to relax and not panic. I enjoyed talking to her for a few seconds before her reports on “Morning Edition”. My sympathy to her family.
