Comcast hikes prices

Pittsburgh: Comcast customers can expect a hike in cable prices come December 1. Prices will be raised about 3.7%. That's after a rate hike of 4.5% earlier this year. The rate hike is due to higher gasoline, employee health care costs and higher programming charges. WPXI says Digital Voice phone service and high speed internet won't be affected.

Well, why not, it’s the logical thing to do in bad economic times, raising rates in an era when we are all watching our pennies. Of course I’m being sarcastic, but one good thing about the transition to digital TV, it would make dropping cable that much easier. If not, it’s like that old Dish Network commercial, “feed the Cable Pig.”

I’m not surprised by this. For those who haven’t heard by now the FCC ruled against Comcast a couple weeks back in their case against the NFL, in that the FCC agreed that putting NFL Network on a more expensive sports tier instead of the basic digital cable package isn’t fair business practices. Comcast argued that if they did it would raise prices for people who don’t watch football. I’m personally glad that now we won’t have to pay extra just for NFL Network, since I watch it a lot. But hey, at least Comcast had it to begin with. Most of the other major cable companies won’t even carry the channel AT ALL. I’m surprised Comcast hasn’t used the NFL Network as an excuse yet to raise prices.

This was the straw that broke my camel’s back —- I am going to drop Comcast and go with the DISH. For what you pay to have Comcast cable, it is just not worth it. We don’t have Game Network or Sci Fi but we have more than two shopping channels and how many sports channels do we need?
